Leaves from the Vine - Avatar: The Last Airbender cover (synth, bass, shakuhachi)
This is my 30 second participation for a compilation of music that a music store chain here in Europe set up. Similarly to my other 'ro buki' video for corona awareness, this video is for a similar cause. But look at the ro buki video as a more spiritual, meditative sound (color) palette and this video as a more musical one, that I swung together just today. I had a lot of doubts: ° what key I should play it in. I went with A major/F minor. D minor notes were too hard for me to meri in tune enough. As I play and end blown flute with only 5 holes, I use shade holing and head movements (meri, which creates a lot the characteristic timbres of the Japanese shakuhachi) in order to get all the right pitches. I also wanted enough meri but not too much. In Japanese music they base this on the principle of taijitu (yin & yang). Some keys sounded quite pretty and easily enough to be in tune to western standard. But I missed the crying sounds of the meri tones. And I really needed those sounds because the vibe of the song, it's about a main character remembering the death of his son. ° How 'busy' to make the mix, knowing I almost forgot the deadline to send it in. etc. It's not the best, but personally I like how it turned out in such a short time of work and play. DAW: Ardour Video editing: Kdenlive OS: Linux Bass guitar Flute: ABS 1.8 shakuhachi Yuu, tuned to western D minor pentatonic Synthesizer: TyrellN6 software emulating subtractive synthesis A lot of people love this series. Most do so more then the sequel 'The Legend of Korra'. It's like a widely respected anime, even though it's not technically an anime. As it's from an American production house.
