The area of Seokchon Lake is 217,850㎡, the amount of fresh water is 6.36 million tons, and the average depth is 4.5m. After the lake was created, Songpa-daero (an arterial road crossing the north-south of Songpa-gu, Seoul) was divided into East Lake (105,785㎡) and West Lake (114,065㎡). The circumference of the lake, which combines the east and west lakes, is 2.5km. The place where Seokchon Lake was originally was the main stream of the Han River, where Songpanaru was located. It is said that the Songpa Naru Site was a key point of the important waterway leading to Hanseong, Chungcheong-do, Jeolla-do and Gyeongsang-do during the Goryeo and Joseon Dynasty. Currently, a milestone called Songpa Naru is erected in Dongho of Seokchon Lake.
