Six Veggies to Plant in August: Zone 6

Six Veggies to Plant in August: Zone 6

Hey everyone...join me today as I direct sow seed in my raised bed garden. I'm determine to have a fall harvest this year buy sowing seeds of crops that tend to like cooler temps. On this hot August morning I sowed golden beets, sugar snap peas, arugula, mesclun lettuce, spinach and cilantro. Since I have nearly 11 weeks until my average first frost, I've got plenty of time to direct sow seed for a harvest this Fall. I'm also going to try a fun technique that I've seen others use...I'll be placing frost cloth over the area where I sowed seed. It's suppose to keep the seed moist until they germinate as well as protect tender, young seedlings from any critters swooping in and gobbling them up. Fingers crossed I'll be enjoying some delicious veggies this Fall.
