Giulia and Rahul live in the United States; however, Giulia was born in Italy – Sicily, to be precise, and her family as well as many friends and relatives still reside near the city of Palermo. Rahul, instead, is from a Gujarati family living in New York, so it was an important requirement for the two spouses to recognize both of their heritages by organizing a full-blown Hindu wedding in addition to an Italian one. While the mother of the bride planned the Catholic ceremony, Giulia decided to entrust the Indian part of the celebrations us here at BIWI, specialists in planning Indian weddings, as she wanted to make a good impression to Rahul’s family and to all the Indian guests who would come to the wedding from the USA. For the Indian ceremony, the bride chose a historic villa in Bagheria, which was surrounded by a garden of tall Mediterranean pine trees and with a beautiful view of the sea. Giulia, wanting a Mandap of soft colors, sent us a photo of her lehenga for inspiration, and we chose fabrics in exactly the same powder white with a few red roses here and there as well as red garlands to honor the red of Indian tradition for weddings. The Mandap was expertly set up in front of the villa by our trusted florist, creating an impressive, romantic effect. Rahul’s Baraat was a succession of colors and sounds, presided over by our excellent Dohl player who created a lively atmosphere for the dance. The groom arrived on a white horse that we decorated with beautiful hand-made decorations. During the Milni ceremony the Italian and Sicilian families exchanged gifts in the sense of the union of the two families, and after the traditional ceremony performed by Rahul’s family Pandit, a Sicilian lunch was enjoyed by all.
