1961 Monaco: Colette Deréal - Allons, allons les enfants (10th place at Eurovision in Cannes/France)

1961 - Monaco Performed by: Colette Deréal Music by: Hubert Giraud Lyrics by: Pierre Delanoë Conductor: Raymond Lefèvre Language: French Placing: 10th (6 points) Colette Deréal represented the Principality of Monaco in the Eurovision Song Contest held in Cannes. She performsed a song for children about the love that comes in the spring. After Eurovision it was the time for touring, theatre and television. Colette Deréal replaced the speakerine Jacqueline Joubert as the host of her show Carte Blanche. In 1972, Colette Deréal offered one of her jobs to make a television soap opera, which became Le Manège de Port-Barcarès. Eleven of the fifteen 13-minute episodes each aired during the summer. But an ORTF strike prevented the airing of the last four episodes. Colette Deréal wins the lawsuit she brought against the broadcaster. She played the main role in the soap opera alongside Marc Cassot and Gérard Barray. She also performed the show's main title song. Unable to remain inactive, Colette became a journalist at the Tribune de Monaco, where she took care of animals (she loved them) and painted for her pleasure paintings that were not intended for the public. Living in La Turbie (Alpes-Maritimes) gave her the opportunity to meet her friend Grace Kelly very often. Perhaps nostalgic for her career as a singer, she agreed to perform several times at the Sporting Club de Monte-Carlo and, in the name of friendship, to sing again for a few privileged people. Her last appearance was on July 2, 1985 at the Kim Club in Cagnes-sur-Mer. Colette Deréal's biggest successes include: À la Gare Saint-Lazare, Y'a plus d'enfants, Les Femmes à lunettes, Valse de Cambronne, Combien (R. Nyel / G. Verlor), Ne joue pas, Telstar et On se reverra which brought her in 1962 le grand prix du disque de l'Académie Charles-Cros. She spent her last years in Cap d'Ail, near Monte Carlo. She lead a calm and serene life in her house on the heights of Monaco, which she had just arranged and whose plans she had drawn. Colette Deréal died on 12 April 1988 from a heart attack. At the request of the Old Marseille Committee the city of Marseille attributed her a street name in the 16th arrondissement. With a feeling of pride, I tell you the news It isn't the day of glory, of victory or New Year's Day It's the day of spring Let's go children, open wide your ears Listen to the song of the awaking streams And you others – the clouds, be obedient and go on It's the day of spring Live, we are about to live Freely like the wind Rich, we are rich Of a thousand promises, of youth and of good weather Let's go children, prisoners of the towns The sky, good child, offers you its fields of stars It's sufficient to choose one, there's a fortune hidden in it It's the day of spring Let's go children, today life is beautiful With a feeling of pride, I tell you the news For me it's the day of glory, of victory This day of spring, it's love that is awaiting me Let's go my love, I only dream of foam The first beautiful days, it seems so soft That's why I proposed you something Go in the fields, see if the wolf is there Live, I want to live Freely under the blue sky Rich, I feel rich Of love and of fresh water that I fished in your eyes Let's go children, today life is beautiful On the field they just have to spread the news A beautiful white page, all white, is opened now It's the day of spring Love, love, love is waiting for us
