32ND FRIDAY IN ORDINARY TIME - Gospel (Lk 17:26-37) - The Word of God for Everyone
FRIDAY OF THE THIRTY-SECOND WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME Gospel (Luke 17:26-37) Jesus said to his disciples: "As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be in the days of the Son of Man; they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage up to the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. Similarly, as it was in the days of Lot: they were eating, drinking, buying, selling, planting, building; on the day when Lot left Sodom, fire and brimstone rained from the sky to destroy them all. So it will be on the day the Son of Man is revealed. On that day, someone who is on the housetop and whose belongings are in the house must not go down to get them, and likewise one in the field must not return to what was left behind. Remember the wife of Lot. Whoever seeks to preserve his life will lose it, but whoever loses it will save it. I tell you, on that night there will be two people in one bed; one will be taken, the other left. And there will be two women grinding meal together; one will be taken, the other left." They said to him in reply, "Where, Lord?" He said to them, "Where the body is, there also the vultures will gather." The Gospel of the Lord: Praise to You, Lord Jesus Christ. The Word of God for Everyone Dear People of God, The Word of God today teaches humanity about the way of the day of God's coming. God calls on humankind not to worship material things above God, and not to despise God. God is Almighty and omnipotent, He has full authority to destroy sin, but He always gives humanity the freedom to choose to come to God or follow the material world. Every thought, word, action, and work of every person is clearly seen by God. He knows who is into passion, worshipping material things, and who is turning to God. The people during the time of Noah and Lot valued and worshiped material things above all else. Humans place the necessities of life above worshiping God, above His love, providence, and mercy. Therefore, there were bad consequences for humanity, namely that humans died in suffering and life was far from God. God warned mankind that whoever cares for his life will lose it, but whoever risks losing his life for God's sake will save it. Today's Word of God also calls on everyone to know how to live in love, to forgive, and to generously share everything that God has given us; for what is given with love will never be lost. God is love, He provides for all things in the lives and souls of humanity. God gives humans freedom. The freedom to walk on the path of grace given by God will grant us eternal life; but freedom to walk on the path of the material world, leaving God out of our lives, then our souls will not be happy in the eternal Kingdom of Heaven in the future. God calls us to turn to a God of love, the only God and the goal of our lives. It is only He who can bring happiness and eternal life to humankind. God gives two images of the time of Noah and Lot to warn humans in today's world to be vigilant so as not to fall into satan's traps and temptations of valuing and worshipping material things, and worshipping people above God. God loves humanity, He calls us to stand up and walk the path of love and forgiveness, and to run to Him who is the most powerful of all things. Only that path is the main purpose of human life, which is the path that brings eternal happiness and eternal life in the Kingdom of Heaven. Today we are called by God to be vigilant in all places and at all times; to be aware of our thoughts, words, and actions so that we do not fall into Satan's traps, so that we do not follow the path of sin anymore, but rather follow the path of holiness, the good path that God gives and calls us to follow. Thanks be to God. Amen.
