Fairborn Woman Arrested After Police Say she Tried to Light a Centerville Woman on Fire
CENTERVILLE -- It was like a scene out of a horror film, but for one Centerville woman, it was a reality.Centerville Police say 46-year-old Kimberly Bennington broke into the victim's home in Centerville, doused in gasoline and then tried to light her on fire. This is a relatively quiet neighborhood, said Scott Abbey, neighbor, For something to that extreme to happen, that's kind of surprising.Abbey lives off Martha Avenue, where police were called to a home on a report of a burglary early Sunday morning. But what they found, was disturbing.A horror film, said Abbey, One thing you can grab somebody with a knife or gun, but to have the mindset I got gasoline, I got a lighter, I'm gonna light somebody up. I mean that's just unfathomable to think.Police say Bennington then fled to her home in Fairborn off Merribrook Court, where officers arrested her.Everyone's really nice, mainly retired folks, said Jacob Petter, lives in Fairborn, It seems like or families with little kids so it's pretty surprising that someone from this neighborhood would do something like that. While police couldn't tell us how the women knew one another, we are told this was not a random act.But for neighbors, it's still a chilling reminder of the world we live in.In this day and age, it doesn't matter what neighborhood you live in anything can happen anywhere regardless, said Abbey.Bennington is being held in the Montgomery County Jail on 250-thousand-dollars bond. She faces aggravated burglary, felonious assault, tampering with evidence and two counts of attempted aggravated arson.
