Passed Out and Drunk School Teacher Arrested - First of 2 DUIs in 2 Days

On February 15, 2024, Rio Rancho Police Officer Haughney was dispatched to a report of a female driver passed out behind the wheel. He located the 40-year-old woman and was able to wake her up after pounding on her window several times. The police report indicates that Officer Haughney could smell alcohol on the breath of the woman. She was asked to perform standardized field sobriety tests, but indicated that she was unable to perform the physical tests due to an existing knee injury. After attempting to perform modified tests, the woman was placed under arrest for Driving While Under the Influence (DWI). It was revealed in the police report that she had a previous DWI arrest and conviction in 2020. She was transported to the Rio Rancho Police Station, where she refused to submit to a breath test and demanded to be taken to a hospital. EMS was called to the scene, took her vital signs, and medically cleared her. Despite this, she was transported to the local emergency room, where she was also medically cleared. She was then transported to the county jail, where she demanded to be taken back to the hospital. She was taken to the emergency room for the 2nd time and was quickly cleared to be taken back to jail. Her charges and the outcome of her case are discussed at the end of the video.
