35 Mins Ago! Mets Found their Next Infielder... Mets News

Happy New Year, Mets fans! As we close out 2025 and head into 2026, let's talk about what the New York Mets are planning for the rest of this offseason. While things have been quiet during the holiday season, we're getting some insight into the team's strategy moving forward. Mets VP of Operations Eduardo Brazila revealed in an interview with Spanish radio play-by-play announcer Johnny Trujillo that the Mets are actively looking to add TWO STARTING PITCHERS, TWO OUTFIELDERS, and reinforce multiple positions. So for everyone worried that the Mets are done making moves—relax. David Stearns is working, and there are still PLENTY of quality players available on the market. This has been a weird offseason across baseball. With a potential lockout and new CBA negotiations looming in 2027, teams are hesitant to hand out massive long-term deals. That's why even elite players like Kyle Tucker and Cody Bellinger might have to settle for high AAV deals on shorter terms. The economic uncertainty is real, and teams are being cautious. Let's talk potential trade targets: Edward Cabrera and Sandy Alcántara from the Marlins. Cabrera is 27, under arbitration control for three more years, and had a solid 2025 (3.53 ERA in 137.2 IP). But here's my issue—he's never pitched more than 137 innings and has injury concerns. The Mets need an INNINGS EATER, not another uncertainty in the rotation. Sandy Alcántara, on the other hand, is much more intriguing. Yes, he's 30 and coming off down years (missed 2024, struggled in 2025 before a strong second half), but this guy is a proven BULLDOG who has consistently thrown 197-228 innings in his prime. He's got $17.3M left in 2026 and a $21M club option for 2027. If the Marlins are willing to negotiate on salary, Alcántara could be a high-upside gamble for the Mets as a potential 200-inning workhorse. We also saw video of Jeurys Familia doing first base drills, and I'm here to say: GIVE HIM A CHANCE. I know fans hate the idea of moving him to first, but remember Wilson Contreras? He moved from catcher to first base and became one of the elite defensive first basemen in baseball. Pete Alonso, as much as people defend him, was NOT a good defensive first baseman outside of scooping balls. The bar isn't high. Familia is agile, and there's a real chance this works out. Quick notes: Diamondbacks GM Mike Hazen says they're putting an end SOON to Ketel Marte trade talks, which tells me they're still open if the right offer comes in before his 10-and-5 no-trade clause kicks in. Mets have a TOP 5 farm system according to baseball evaluators—homegrown talent like Clifford, Jett, Benj, and Ronnie could be the future core. Addressing the elephant in the room: Yes, I see the comments about our headlines. I GET IT. Fan Arts creates the thumbnails and titles, not me. I've pushed back, but this is how YouTube works for newer channels. We're less than a year old (launched January 6th, 2025), and catchy headlines bring in new viewers. Once you're here, I hope the content keeps you around because I'm showing up EVERY DAY talking Mets baseball. Thanks for an incredible 2025! We've got big guests coming in 2026—Hank Azaria, Figgy, Wardy, Draft Nick Mark, and more. Stay safe tonight, don't drink and drive, get an Uber, and here's to a blessed 2026!
