Husband Wife Granddaughter They all want to see glaciers, wildlife, and especially bears catching fish. The Husband Husband is in the late ’60s and good health He likes to fish and explore. Likes history, and some museums – not art Hates shopping Used to camp but doesn’t anymore The Wife Wife is in the early ’60s with mobility issues She uses a wheelchair for distances and as a walker at times. She enjoys shopping, museums, and history. The wife thinks camping means Holiday Inn. Hates packing and unpacking. The Granddaughter Granddaughter is 14 She likes to fish with grandfather Shop with grandmother. Wants some limited freedom to go and do. She likes to dress up at times. Which Region Arctic – Not accessible enough and doesn’t meet goals Southeastern – Meets more of the goals, but has travel and accessibility issues. Interior – Seeing Denali would be ok, but not enough of the other goals. Southcentral - would meet most of the goals but would require too much packing and unpacking or too much drive time. Inside Passage This is the choice that best meets the goals of everyone in the group. There are good fishing opportunities, including halibut and salmon which are on the husband’s bucket list. There are several towns with good shopping for unique items. There are glaciers you can get close to on land and ones accessible by water. There are two real ways to visit the Inside Passage Cruise ship Marine Highway Ferry System The latter would require packing and unpacking at every stop. Cruise wins because you can unpack and pack once. Cruise also affords the freedom to Granddaughter to come and go on her own. And it offers the chance to dress up.
