Homily of the 5th Sunday of Lent, Year C : Are you Mr. and Mrs. Perfect?
Homily of the 6th of April 2025: 5th Sunday of Lent, Year C Are you Mr. and Mrs. Perfect? "Let the one among you who has not sinned be the first to throw a stone at her." (John 8:7) Dear brothers and sisters, today’s Gospel presents a dramatic scene: a woman caught in adultery, surrounded by self-righteous accusers. But Jesus turns the situation around with a simple, piercing question: Who among you is without sin? Let’s reflect: Are we Mr. & Mrs. Perfect, quick to condemn others, or are we people of mercy like Jesus? 1. The Injustice of the Pharisees The Scribes and Pharisees were ready to stone the woman—but where was the man? Adultery is not committed alone! This is not just about one woman; it’s about the many people who suffer unjustly in our world—the poor, the powerless, those judged unfairly. Many still carry the weight of sins they did not commit simply because they lack power, wealth, or status. Do we contribute to this injustice by our silence or indifference? 2. Jesus’ Response can be resumed into two words : Mercy & Conversion Jesus does not debate. He stoops down, writes on the ground, and lets silence speak. Then He asks: If there is one of you who has not sinned, let him be the first to throw a stone at her.’ Jesus is askin us clearly: Who among you is without sin? The truth hits hard: We are all sinners. We all need God’s mercy. But does Jesus excuse the woman’s sin? No! He says: "Go and sin no more." (John 8:11) He shows both justice (sin is real) and mercy (forgiveness is possible). 3. So, let us ask oursleves : Are We Mr. & Mrs. Perfect? John warns us: "If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves." (1 John 1:8) The Pharisees saw sin in others, but not in themselves. Jesus, on the other hand, is the refuge of sinners—always ready to forgive. ✅ Do we judge others harshly while excusing our own faults? ✅ Do we throw stones with our words, our gossip, our self-righteousness? ✅ Or do we lead people to Christ with love and mercy? Brothers and sisters, God does not love us because we are perfect. He loves us as we are and calls us to conversion, not condemnation. Let’s drop our stones and open our hearts to His mercy. Are you Mr. & Mrs. Perfect or a refuge of sinners like Jesus? May we be people of mercy, not judgment. Amen. #MercyOverJudgment #RefugeOfSinners #NoStoneThrowing #ForgivenessAndMercy #LetHeWhoIsWithoutSin #CallToConversion #PeopleOfMercy #LoveAndForgiveness #NotMrAndMrsPerfect #DropTheStones #BeLikeJesus #MercyNotJudgment #HealingThroughMercy #ForgiveAndMoveForward #ConversionNotCondemnation #SinnersInNeedOfMercy #ChristOurRefuge #LentReflection #JusticeAndMercy #WalkInMercy #HomilyOfMercy #SundayHomily #HomilyReflection #HomilyOfTheDay #LentenHomily #MercyHomily #HomilyOnJusticeAndMercy #HomilyForSinners #LentHomily
