How North Koreans Celebrate the Lunar New Year (and Other Holidays!)
This year, South Koreans enjoyed a four-day weekend in celebration of the Lunar New Year, while North Koreans only had Lunar New Year’s Day off. In the past, North Korea only observed the solar new year, but in 1989, it began to observe the lunar new year as well. The only caveat is that North Koreans only get one day off without any sort of “in lieu of” holiday. In this episode, we explore how the Lunar New Year is celebrated in North Korea through its television, as well as take a look at a calendar published in North Korea to get an idea of the other holidays and events we should be on the look out for this year. #LunarNewYear #NorthKorea #NorthKoreanHolidays #KimJongUn #MilitaryFoundationDay #VictoryDay #Holiday #KCTV #DayoftheSun #DayoftheShiningStar
