Pope Leo XIV remembers the victims of the Sydney massacre: "Enough anti-Semitic violence."
During the audience with the delegations who donated the Christmas tree and nativity scene for Christmas 2025 in St. Peter's Square, Pope Leo XIV dedicated a touching thought to the victims of the recent attack in Sydney. In a time marked by conflict and pain, the Holy Father invites the faithful to look at the nativity scene not only as a work of art, but as a peaceful response to the violence that bloodies the world: "For the pilgrims from every part of the world who will gather in St. Peter's Square, the nativity scene will remind us that God draws close to humanity, becomes one of us, entering our history with the smallness of a child. Before every nativity scene, even those set up in our homes, we relive that event and rediscover the need to seek moments of silence and prayer in our lives, to rediscover ourselves and enter into communion with God. The tree, with its evergreen branches, is a sign of life and evokes the hope that never fails, even in the cold of winter. The lights that adorn it symbolize Christ, the light of the world, who came to dispel the darkness of sin and illuminate our journey. In addition to the large fir tree, the other smaller trees destined for offices, public spaces, and various areas of Vatican City come from those same places in South Tyrol. The Nativity scene, which will remain in this Hall throughout the Christmas season, comes from Costa Rica and is entitled Nacimiento Gaudium. Each of the twenty-eight thousand colored ribbons decorating the scene represents a life saved from abortion thanks to prayer and the support provided by Catholic organizations to many mothers in need. Dear brothers and sisters, the Nativity scene and the tree are signs of faith and hope; as we contemplate them in our homes, in parishes, and in public squares, let us ask the Lord to renew within us the gift of peace and brotherhood. Let us pray for those who suffer because of war and violence; in particular, today I wish to entrust to the Lord the victims of yesterday's terrorist attack in Sydney against the Jewish community. Enough of these forms of anti-Semitic violence! We must eliminate hatred. from our hearts." 🔔 Subscribe to our channel and turn on notifications: / @catholikey _____________________________________________ 👥 Follow us on our social media channels: Instagram: / catholikey Facebook: / catholikey TikTok: / catholikey Substack: https://substack.com/@catholikey ➡️ You can also visit our website: https://catholikey.com/ #pope #leonexiv #papaleonexiv #vatican #vaticanonews #news #newsvideo #church #catholicchurch #follow #foryou #christmas #christmas2025 #christmastree #youtube #video #youtubevideo #trentino #trentinoaltoadige #shorts #short #shortsvideo #shortvideo #youtubeshort #youtubeshorts
