MUTANT Drive-Thru Emergency – Post-Workout Nutrition
Ever wondered what the pros eat post workout? In this video, we caught up with Dusty Hanshaw and Big Ron Partlow after a brutal leg workout. The MUTANTs head to a local Wendy’s for a typical post-workout meal. Ron explains the importance of reducing fat intake post-workout in order to maximize the speed of digestion and absorption of carbs and protein. He estimates his carb intake to be between 75 to 100 grams with his spicy chicken sandwich combo (no topping) with a plain baked potato. He washes his meal down with a Diet Coke. Dusty orders the same combo but with a couple of twists. He adds a slice of cheese to the spicy chicken (purely for the taste he admits) and requests a regular Coke because he wants the simple sugars in the soda to help with glycogen replenishment. Dusty also orders a separate cup of cold water so that he can mix up some MUTANT BCAA 9.7 since it’s post workout and he needs BCAAs and other free-form aminos for recovery. He explains the benefits of BCAAs and aminos post-workout and how the electrolytes in BCAA 9.7 help with hydration, which is critical after training. A post-workout nutrition video wouldn’t be complete without some discussion on training. So while refuelling with the delicious spicy chicken combo, Ron asks Dusty to explain how he’s changed his training as he’s gotten older. Dusty gives some outstanding secrets that you wouldn’t expect from the typical hardcore ‘grip it and rip it’ style of training he’s known for. He also stresses the importance of controlling the negative, which many would-be-great bodybuilders simply forget.
