Why did EXTINCTION REBELLION Disrupt Melbourne? (Day 3 - SWARM)

[ SUPPORT:   / wardenclyffe   ] On the third day of the Extinction Rebellion Spring Uprising, protesters gathered in Melbourne throughout the day at various locations for a "Swarm", holding intersections and having speakouts before disbanding and moving on to the next swarm location. The Extinction Rebellion demonstrations are taking place in 60 cities across the globe, aiming to disrupt "business as usual" in response to what they feel is inaction by governments to adequetly address and act on what they see as an impending climate crisis. Protesters are demanding the government declare a climate emergency and bring carbon emissions to net zero within the next few years in an attempt to halt climate change. These protests have been met with various degrees of response, with Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton suggesting climate protesters be stripped of welfare payments, Premiere of Victoria Daniel Andrews claiming the disruptions are not winning them any friends, protesters being arrested and held for long periods of time by police while being given what some believe are 'absurd' bail conditions including not being allowed to speak to other XR activsits, and one news paper even doing what protesters claim is doxxing of activsits. While actions in Sydney appear to be gaining more police response, the actions in Melbourne have also resulted in the arrest of activists, however, the swarm took place without much of reaction by police, and as such the event was peaceful, minus the honks of aggrivated drivers who were held up for a brief time. The Swarm was just one of the many actions Extinction Rebellion staged throughout the week of their Spring Uprising. At the conclusion of the Swarm the protesters met up with other XR activists to take part in their lighthearted "Civil DiscoBedience" where they danced to disco music through the streets of Melbourne, raising awareness for their cause.
