Posture Self Tests (Part 2) - Improve Movement and Posture NOW!
Posture Self Tests: Complimentary Tests In part 1, we discussed four self tests to assess restricted movement on the front and back sides of the thorax and pelvis. We used the knee to chest, straight leg raise, shoulder flexion and shoulder extension. While these measures are helpful, if you can cross reference with other measurements, you will often be able to paint a better picture. In this video, we discuss 5 additional self tests to determine areas of restriction that will need to be improved to restore movement options and posture. The measurements we will use for complimentary tests are: 1. Hip Internal rotation at 90 degrees flexion 2. Hip External rotation at 90 degrees flexion 3. Shoulder Internal rotation at 90 degrees abduction 4. Shoulder External rotation at 90 degrees abduction 5. Seated Neck Rotation When we have multiple tests that tell us the same information, we can more confidently choose exercises to help restore movement in those areas. However, we can often get surprised that two measurements are different that are supposed to give us similar information. In these cases, we are typically dealing with a "cheat" or compensatory movement strategy that is allowing us to "beat the test." In upcoming videos, we will dive into exercise selection for different test clusters, and outline a few of the common cheats and strategies to correct them. Stay tuned!
