The Plain of Jars | Phonsavan Traditional Market | World Theme Travel | #PickedDocumentary

In Phonsavan, located 1,100m above sea level in northern Laos, there is a manmade structure, a plain full of jars made by people refining stones. Nobody knows the exact purpose and origin of the Plain of Jars, but experts estimate that they were created approximately 2,000 years ago. People argue over whether they were created as a way to preserve food or as a coffin. One can find damaged stone jars or deep pits in the Plain of Jars, and these are from the bombardment during the Vietnam War. Ban Napia is a village located in Phonsavan, the northern area of Laos, and they are famous for making household goods from artifacts of war. They use the bomb shells that were dropped on the village during the Vietnam War and melt them into to make household goods like spoons.
