
Pause For 3rd Time | RBI Governor Announces MPC Outcome, Keeps Repo Rate Unchanged At 6.5% | ET Now
Governor Shaktikanta Das announces the decision of the Reserve Bank of India's third monetary policy committee meeting. RBI typically conducts six bi-monthly meetings in a financial year, where it decides interest rates, money supply, inflation outlook, and various macroeconomic indicators. The August 2023 meeting began on August 8 and will conclude today with the announcement of the decision of the rate-setting panel. "Monsoon distribution is uneven; Industrial activity is holding ground. Monetary Policy Committee decided unanimously to keep the Repo Rate unchanged at 6.50%"., says Governor Shaktikanta Das. The RBI chief said that global economy continue to face daunting challenges of inflation, geo political uncertainty and extreme weather conditions, but exuded confidence that India is expected to withstand external headwinds on economic growth front. This is the third times since RBI's MPC has decided to keep the repo rate as it is. The RBI has kept the repo rate unchanged at 6.5 per cent since February when it was raised from 6.25 per cent.
