Livonia Fire Department works to rescue ducks at nursing home

The Livonia City Fire Department (LFD) came to the rescue earlier this month when a brood of ducklings fell into a drainage pipe. The mother duck laid and hatched her eggs in a courtyard at our Livonia Woods campus. When our activities director, David Alvarez went to check on the family of ducks, he learned that some of them had gotten caught in the pipe. After our Livonia Woods staff did all they could to try to save the ducklings, they called the fire department for help. Our friends at Livonia Fire & Rescue were able to recover all of the babies from the storm sewer. The family was finally reunited and all of the ducklings were taken back home to mom, where we assume they got a stern quacking to! Also thankful to our staff at Livonia Woods whose hearts are so big that they couldn’t stand the thought of these ducklings being trapped.
