Understanding And Responding To Special Concerns | Supporting Vaccination: A Toolkit for CHWs
This video describes concerns beyond common side effects that stem from little information or misinformation about vaccination. Concerns include general ineffectiveness or alteration of the DNA, concerns about fertility, impact on pregnancy or breastfeeding and impact on immunocompromised individuals. These concerns are placed in context and the science is unpacked. Community health workers reflect on communication skills that can help when listening to and educating community members about these concerns. This video is part of our Supporting Vaccination Toolkit for Community Health Workers (CHWs). This free digital toolkit is designed to increase the self-efficacy and effectiveness of CHWs in conducting vaccine outreach in communities, ultimately increasing vaccination rates. The toolkit covers: • Science of Immunization: The basic science of viruses and vaccines so CHWs feel confident in explaining how vaccines work. • Misinformation: How to educate clients about common vaccine misinformation as well as identify and access accurate, up-to-date information. • Empathy and Communication: Ways to effectively address individual concerns about vaccination and to help people understand the importance of vaccination and feel empowered to get vaccinated.
