2nd and 3rd Commandments (March 9 2025) Sermon

Returning to God means honoring His name and resting in His truth. When we misuse His name, we erode His power in our hearts and minds. But when we speak and live with reverence, set apart time for holy rest, and reflect His character in our relationships, we keep His name holy and find true rest in Him. Jesus calls us to take His yoke and trust in His goodness. Obey, trust, and rest in the Lord today! #holiness #RestInGod #HonorHisName Why This is Relevant Today: In a world full of distractions, self-reliance, and dishonor, many struggle to find peace and purpose. This sermon reminds us that honoring God’s name leads to a restored heart, stronger faith, and true rest. As society normalizes irreverence and busyness, we must intentionally guard our words, set apart time for God, and represent His love. When we do, we find freedom from anxiety, renewed faith, and a deeper connection with Christ, who offers us real peace and rest. Here are three practical ways we can keep God's name holy through our words and actions and rest in Him and His truth and holiness: 1. Speak and Live with Reverence for God’s Name Words: Avoid using God’s name carelessly, whether in speech, humor, or expressions of frustration. Instead, use His name in ways that bring honor—through prayer, praise, and teaching. Actions: Let your lifestyle reflect His holiness. Living with integrity, honesty, and kindness ensures that God's name is honored through your deeds. Application: Before speaking or acting, ask: Does this reflect the holiness of God? If not, choose a different path. 2. Set Apart Time for True Sabbath Rest in Him Words: Encourage others to honor the Sabbath by speaking about the goodness of resting in God rather than glorifying busyness or self-reliance. Actions: Intentionally set aside time for worship, reflection, and rest in God’s presence rather than just physical relaxation. Prioritize time in Scripture, prayer, and worship on the Sabbath and throughout the week. Application: Create rhythms of rest that focus on God's sufficiency—step away from work and distractions to experience His peace. 3. Represent God's Character in Relationships Words: Speak truthfully and graciously to others, knowing that you represent Christ. Upholding the character of God in your conversations prevents the erosion of His name in your heart and the hearts of others. Actions: Extend grace, mercy, and forgiveness as Christ does. Whether in family, work, or community life, how we treat others reflects how we honor God’s name. Application: When faced with conflict or challenge, respond in a way that reflects Christ's gentleness and humility (Matthew 11:29). By guarding our words, committing to holy rest, and reflecting God's character in our relationships, we ensure that His name remains sacred in our lives and that we rest fully in His power and holiness.
