Bad Starter Relay In A Car: Symptoms And How To Diagnose

Bad Starter Relay In A Car: Symptoms And How To Diagnose. In this video I will talk about symptoms and how to diagnose bad starter relay in a car. Here are the symptoms and how to diagnose The car will not start If your car won’t start, it is likely that you are dealing with a bad starter relay. If your starter relay is dead, your car will not start even with an electronic key. Electronic keys may not use a manual ignition switch, but once you press the button to start your car, you activate the starter relay. Therefore, irrespective of whether you are pressing a button or turning the key to start your car, if it fails to start, the problem may originate from a bad starter relay. A clicking sound when you turn the key in the ignition When starting up an engine, you should hear a smooth sound; if you hear a rapid clicking sound, then this is a telltale indication of a bad starter relay. The clicking sound is a result of a malfunctioned starter relay that is unable to relay the electrical current necessary for starting the engine. A starting relay that remains on even after the engine starts When the ignition is off, the starter motor and solenoid stop. If, in your case, the two stay on, then you have a malfunctioned starting relay, which explains why it remains on even after your car engine starts. Experiencing intermittent issues when starting your car If it takes switching your ignition key on and off several times before the engine starts, then you have a faulty starter relay. Such an outcome is caused by prolonged exposure to heat, debris, dirt, and corrosion that limit the electrical current running through the circuit.
