A Spring Festival New Year's Candlemas Procession and Choral Evensong 2022

February 2, 2022 was students' third day back on campus after the provincial lockdown. Eager to see each other and celebrate the many events marked by the date, students and staff gathered in the Chapel and, with lighted candles, processed through the hallways to the old Student Activity Council Room. There, we heard some music that reminded Huron's many international students of the Lunar New Year celebrations with their families back home. We also had some individually packaged snacks and drinks for students to take back with them to their local residence. Upon return to the Chapel, the choir sang Evensong commemmorating Candlemas, which is also known as the feast of the Presentation of Christ in the Temple or the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary. So many things going on! So cool! Here is some of the music sung by the choir and some some pictures that students took during the procession. Although the inclement weather conditions made it difficult for people to come join us, the good wishes of all the Chapel's friends were felt. Please check out the Chapel's facebook page for up-to-date information on choral and other chaplaincy events. 0:00 Blessing of the candles and antiphon "Lumen ad revelationem" in Fauxbourdon and polyphony by Palestrina 2:44 Procession to "Of the Father's Heart Begotten" 5:06 verses from the 9th-century Office Hymn "Quod chorus vatum" 6:54 Magnificat from Evening Canticles in G-minor by Purcell 11:04 Nunc Dimittis from Evening Canticles in G-minor by Purcell 15:05 Prayers by Chaplain, Fr Gary Thorne 18:16 verses from Hymn "Hail to the Lord Who Comes" (OLD 120th)
