But one of the biggest reasons is because we --- as a society -- do not believe parents could do anything to harm their child (or adult child). Why would a parent intentionally harm their child(adult child)? Because they are emotionally unavailable narcissists and struggle to see the error of their way. They want to be significant in some fashion and when they don't feel that way, they lash out. Other narcissistic parents may appear (on the outside) to be humble, modest, dejected, and perhaps even depressed -- but the reality is that they hide narcissistic feelings and thoughts behind that façade.
