It stems from the desire for wholeness and connection, whether on a romantic, platonic or spiritual level. In faith, this longing is often understood as an indication that our hearts are made for a greater love, the love of God. Man feels that nothing earthly can completely fill this emptiness, as the soul longs for something infinite and eternal. This unfulfilled longing is often addressed in the Bible, for example in the Psalms, which express man's call for closeness to God. "As the deer pants for still waters, so my soul pants for you, O God" (Psalm 42:2). The moon and stars, often associated with longing and romance, can serve as symbols of the constancy and closeness of God, who always accompanies us despite the distance. Unfulfilled longing, however, is not a sign of weakness, but a way to grow deeper into the love and closeness of God. It reminds us that true fulfillment is not found in transitory things, but in connection with the Creator. For believers, this longing becomes a prayer, an expression of hope for the coming of that love that will wipe away all tears and fill the emptiness of the heart.
