Schools and offices crippled in quake-hit southwestern Japan leaving the whole city paralyzed

日구마모토 강진으로 시청 폐쇄, 학교 휴교 …도시기능 마비 Now for the latest from Japan,... the death toll from a series of earthquakes on Kyushu Island has risen to at least 42… with at least eleven people still missing.. and over 2-thousand injured. The two earthquakes that struck the city of Kumamoto paralyzed the city. Thousands of buildings and houses were damaged in the quakes…. with roads and power lines severed in landslides ….leaving more than 110-thousand people stranded in temporary shelters. More than 60-thousand homes are without electricity and 300-thousand have no access to water. According to local sources, many government offices, local firms, shops and about 60 percent of all primary and secondary schools in the city have been shut down...leaving the city at a virtual standstill.
