Father Larry Gillick Homily September 14

Father Larry Gillick reflected on the Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross, connecting it to the story of Moses lifting up the bronze serpent as a symbol of healing. He explained that Jesus becomes the new pole, the one lifted up, through whom all who believe are healed and saved. The cross, once a sign of condemnation, is transformed into a symbol of obedience, trust, and triumph — canceling disobedience, fear, and self-condemnation. Father Gillick emphasized that Jesus’ victory on the cross shows that grace triumphs over our earthly weaknesses and contradictions. Ultimately, the cross calls us to live with peace, accepting God’s love for us and sharing that same love with others.
