Click & Grow system. Experimenting using my own sponges and nutrients.

I've seen several people ask if you can use your own sponges and nutrients for the click and grow system. Decided to experiment using rock wool and grow sponges that I purchased from Amazon. I will update as I go but so far the growth is there, just seems slower than Aerogarden or Gardyn systems (maybe because of no water flow?). The sponges I purchased are these https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B624QZRM?psc=1... they don't quite fit the click and grow pods so I filled in the sides with rockwool. If anyone knows of a spong that might fit a bit better please let me know down in the comments.
