Psalms 37:7,8, Proverbs 24:19, Psalms 73:3, Proverbs 3:31, Proverbs 23:17, Proverbs 24:1, Proverbs 24:19 David describes the different states of good and evil people, and is filled with exhortation, instruction, and counsel for God's people. Commentator Patrick DeLay suggests that it was written when Mephibosheth (the mouth of shame, shame) and Merib-Baal (contending with Baal) were wounded by Ziba's (settlement) slander. When Absalom rebelled, Ziba, Mephibosheth's servant, went ahead of Barzillai to meet David with two donkeys loaded with two hundred loaves of bread, a hundred bunches of raisins, a hundred summer fruits, and a skin of wine (2 Samuel 16:1). When David asked where Mephibosheth was, Ziba lied, saying that he would plot to have Mephibosheth take Saul's kingdom back from him. This is understood to have been written to comfort Mephibosheth (2 Sam 19:25-26). The saints are admonished not to show themselves red or complain because of the end of evildoers.
