10 Length Retention Tips I swear by: 1. Trim Regularly: Having trim schedule was a major key for my length retention. Trimming your hair every frequently helps prevent split ends, which can travel up the hair shaft causing you to need a hair cut instead of a trim. 2. Limit use of direct heat: Excessive heat can cause damage and breakage. If you must use heat tools, always apply a heat protectant first and use the lowest heat setting. If you want to use heat more frequently, make indirect heat your bestie - i.e Rollersets 3. Moisturize and Condition: Dry hair is more prone to breakage. Use a good conditioner and consider deep conditioning treatments regularly to keep hair hydrated and strong. 4. Protect Hair While Sleeping : Use a silk or satin pillowcase or wear a satin scarf to reduce friction, which can lead to breakage while you sleep. 5. Be Gentle When Detangling: Always detangle hair when it's wet and conditioned using a wide-tooth comb or your fingers. Avoid tugging, as this can cause breakage. Start at the ends and work your way up. Don’t forget sections, work in sections. 6. Avoid Tight Hairstyles: Styles that pull on the hair, like tight ponytails or braids, can cause stress on the hair and lead to breakage. Opt for looser styles. Let your hair breathe. 7. Minimize Chemical Treatments: Frequent chemical treatments like perms, coloring, or relaxers can weaken hair. If you must use them, do so sparingly and always follow with proper aftercare. When my hair was relaxed, I stretched my relaxers for 16 weeks or more . I also made that the one chemical service I received. The more chemical treatments you have the weaker your hair can become. 8. Use Protein Treatments: Over time, hair can become weak. Protein treatments help restore strength and reduce breakage. Moisture/ protein balance is key but use protein as often as your hair needs. For my protein sensitive besties consider a light protein treatment. 9. Eat a Healthy Diet : Hair health is often linked to overall nutrition. Eating a balanced diet with plenty of vitamins and minerals—especially biotin, zinc, and omega-3s—can support hair growth and strength- nourishment from the inside out. 10. Stay Hydrated: Drinking enough water helps keep your hair hydrated from the inside out, preventing dryness and breakage. Implementing these habits CONSISTENTLY will help your hair grow longer and healthier over time. ##lengthretention #lengthretentionjourney #lengthretentiontips #lengthcheck #relaxedhair #naturalhair #relaxedtonatural #bigchop #bigchopjourney #bigchopnaturalhair
