A biological indicator provides information on whether necessary conditions were met to kill a specified number of microorganisms for a given sterilization process, providing a level of confidence in the process. USP defines a biological indicator (BI) as a characterized preparation of a specific microorganism that provides a defined and stable resistant to a specific sterilization process. A biological indicator can be used 1. To assist in the performance qualification of the sterilization equipments. 2. In the development and establishment of a validated sterilization process for a particular article. 3. In the process that render a product sterile in its final package or container, as well as for the sterilization of equipment, material, and packaging components used in aseptic processing. 4.
