In the US, we sit on sofas and basically never the floor However, in Korea, Koreans are used to sitting on the floor and find it comfortable So when they buy a new sofa, they find themselves using it as a backrest more than a sofa sometimes! Not all families do that, but sometimes you can see it and it's just funny when you do But, I don't blame them -- it does make a nice backrest!
