Sunday Morning Service, Knox United Church Calgary - Feb 23, 2025 Series: Themes of Liberation In the month of February, we highlight the history and gifts of the Black community in our world – and particularly in North America. Each week we will focus on a spiritual found in our hymnals – (African-American religious folk songs that originated in the American South during the era of slavery) songs with a rich theological grounding and message of Liberation that speaks in new ways for us today. In this month of reflecting on Black history and Black voices, the focus is to find strength and inspiration from the voices of resistance, voices that continue to call for justice and action, voices that don’t remain silent even under extreme hardship, racism and injustice. And, the invitation is to continue to reflect and learn how we might be more anti-racist in our own actions. This is a starting point for the whole year – not just one month.
