Tennessee Correction Academy - Instructor Michael Pate'

The Tennessee Correction Academy (TCA), located in the city of Tullahoma, is the Department of Correction's primary training and staff development center. Each year, more than 6,000 TDOC and Department of Children's Services personnel participate in one of the academy's numerous pre-service, in-service, or specialized training schools. The academy opened its doors in January, 1984, with a commitment to contributing to the organization's success through providing quality staff training programs. In 1993, TCA became the second correctional training academy in the nation to be fully accredited by the American Correctional Association. Such a distinction has resulted in numerous visits from Correctional Administrators and Specialists nationwide, who seek to establish top-grade training programs in their respective states. On October 18, 2013, the Tennessee Correction Academy received approval from the POST (Peace Officer Standards and Training) Commission to allow specific instructors to be POST certified police instructors in specific curriculum that is approved as POST certified courses. It also allows the Tennessee Department of Correction to partner with law enforcement agencies to offer additional law enforcement training. Courses/programs currently approved to receive POST approved training hours are: -Hostage Negotiation Training -Incident Command System Training -New Supervisory Training -Basic Managerial Development Program -Training for Trainers -Defensive Tactics -Chemical Agents -Firearms -Firearms Instructor -Semi-Automatic Pistol Transition Course -Victim Sensitivity -Report Writing -Cultural Diversity -Recognizing Child and Elderly Abuse For additional information, please contact Sean Lenart by email or call 931-461-7763.
