National Youth in Agroecology Caravan 2021 - YALTA | Highlights

YALTA (Youth in Agroecology & Business Learning Track Africa) is an initiative aimed to support 6000 young agriprenuers to apply agroecological principles and to co-create networks around them, in view of contributing to the increased sustainability of food systems and youth employment. This initiative targets youth in Uganda, Ethiopia, Kenya and Rwanda while following a market based approach. YALTA initiative hosted and implemented by PELUM (Participatory Ecological Land Use Management) in collaboration with ACSA (Advocacy Coalition for Sustainable Agriculture), KCOA (Knowledge Centre for Organic Agriculture in Eastern Africa), CAPCA (Central Archdiocesan Province Caritas Association), CIDI (Community Integrated Development Initiative) and UNYFA (Uganda National Young Farmers Association) organized a 5-day National Youth in Agroecology Caravan 2021 from 21st to 25th March with the theme “Unlocking Agroecology Business Potential for Youth Livelihood Improvement”. The caravan took on 40 youth with an overall objective of equipping young people with practical knowledge, skills and approaches through peer-to-peer exchanges and learning from youth-led agribusiness enterprises.
