As the flood waters receded in West Virginia, some locals returned home to find their homes wiped away by the devastating flood waters (left, a home destroyed in Falling Rock). At least 18,000 of them are without electricity and will continue to be until Monday evening at the earliest. Local rescuers have all but abandoned the search for survivors and victims, focusing the effort instead on clearing debris (bottom right) from the streets and helping people repair their damaged homes (top right) and lives. President Barack Obama declared the devastating weather a 'major disaster' and instructed the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to provide all help necessary to victims.
