
Acute Epiglottitis In Children Causes, Clinical features, Diagnosis and Management
This video is about acute epiglottitis. This is a respiratory tract infection caused by H. Influenzae B in unvaccinated and by Streptococcus pyogenes, Streptococcus pnuemoniae, and Staphylococcus aureus in vaccinated children. It usually occur in children 2 - 4 years old. There is sudden onset of high grade fever, sore throat, difficulty swallowing and drooling. Child typically assume a tripod sitting position. Breathing difficulty, cyanosis, and coma may occur in sever cases. Characteristic radiological finding is "thumb sign".
