Ohio considers gas chamber as execution method

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WKRC) - Ohio is considering a proposal to use the gas chamber as an execution method. The Ohio Prosecuting Attorneys Association says lethal injection is stalled, and it's time for a change. The proposal is to pump nitrogen gas into an air-tight chamber, which produces asphyxiation by a lack of oxygen in the blood. It has not been used for executions in Ohio, although Oklahoma adopted it as a backup method. There have been no executions in Ohio for two-and-a-half years, largely because of lawsuits and difficulty obtaining drugs for lethal injection.
