Salted Caramel Homemade Vegan Christmas Turtles | Perfect Holiday Dessert | The Edgy Veg
On today's episode of The Edgy Veg Candice is going to show you how to make delicious Homemade Vegan Chocolate Christmas Turtles. The first step in this recipe is to make salted caramel out of dates. No that was not a mistake, you will actually be making a caramel substitute with dates. You will add a bowl of dates to your food processor, make sure their pitted, and then process them. You will know your dates are ready to go when they turn into a big sticky ball like the one you see in the video. Pull out the sticky ball, add salt, to get your salted caramel flavoring, and blend again. Once blended pull out your sticky date caramel and put it into a saran wrap lined bowl then place it into the freezer for about an hour. Once your hour has passed you can pull out the date caramel mixture and make into a bunch of little balls. Your next step is to place 3 pecans into each caramel ball as seen in the video to create what looks a bit like a turtle. Now, over a double boiler you will melt some vegan chocolate chips or vegan semi-sweet chocolate until it's smooth and creamy. Turn that chocolate down to avoid burning it and put all of your turtles onto a pan and into the freezer for about 30 minutes. Once they are properly cooled down pull out your turtles and drizzle a spoonful of your melted chocolate onto each one. It's important to not over do it on the drizzling as you do want the pecan legs to be visible. When you have drizzled chocolate on each one of them it's time to put them back into the freezer for at least another 30 minutes. You need to make sure your chocolate hardens. Candice prefers to leave them in overnight but these are your homemade vegan chocolate caramel Christmas turtles so ultimately it's your decision how long they stay in the fridge. Then end result is an adorable and tasty chocolate covered Christmas turtle that makes an excellent dessert for your guests, or a tasty snack for you after all your hard work. Like what you see here?
