Dr. David: Got questions about PrEP? #AskTheHIVDoc has all the answers. Dr. Demetre: From the perspective of drugs, there’s no interaction between PrEP, estrogen, or testosterone. There’s no reason to stop PrEP. On the other hand, there’s a really good reason to stay on it. If you’re taking testosterone or estrogen, it can make you maybe want to have more sex. So what a great reason to stay on PrEP. It will protect you regardless of what’s happening, so while you’re doing your transition, while you’re starting your hormones, PrEP is a really good idea to protect you from HIV. Also, remember, if you’re doing hormones, use hormones that only come from your physician or other provider. If you’re using hormones from another provider, make sure that you have clean syringes. It’s not all about sex. It’s also about making sure that you don’t, you inject safely if you’re using needles that aren’t from your doctor.
