COVID-19: Japan extends state of emergency until May 31
Japan has extended its state of emergency to May 31. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said the restrictions must be kept in place to reduce the strain on the healthcare system. The four-week state of emergency had been due to end on May 4. Mr Abe will review the situation in ten days. The country has reported more than 15,000 COVID-19 infections and around 540 deaths.
