MGS2 Speedrun Single Segment Big Boss 1:43:44 Part 6.
MGS2 Speedrun Single Segment Big Boss 1:43:44 Part 6. The following is a speedrun for MGS2 Sons of Liberty® on Playstation 2®. The rules of the runs are as follows New Game Difficulty: European Extreme Game Over If Alert No Saves No Radar PAL Version Big Boss Rank Final Time 1:43:44 Environment. PS2 (SCPH-79003) Game Version (SLES 50383) The difference between Extreme and Euro Extreme is quite big, with guards having longer fields of vision, better hearing etc etc. Other differences include increased damage received and a longer choke hold scene with Solidus than Extreme by 20 seconds. The differences between PAL and NTSC are open to debate; time is lost gained, and calculated differently between the two versions. Some cut-scenes can't be skipped and slow down is more prevalent in the PAL version of the game. All in all a PAL game should not be measured against an NTSC game in terms of speedrunning end times. The only difference between a New Game and Loaded Game is the Stillman Cut Scenes are skippable saving exactly 2 minutes and 20 seconds. First off I have to state how hard this run is to actually do. With the strats that I use I attempted to make the first 45 minutes in as quick a possible time as I could. After the Harrier the idea was to slow down slightly, as the second half of game is easy up till the Tengu fight. The level of patience and concentration required to do such a run is huge and I'd like to congratulate the following people for also having accomplished this feat; Takeshi Lucid Faia Anonymityhope Take-Chan I'd like to thank Lucid Faia for his support and everyone at mgsforums.com for their continous support, special thanks go out to Andrew Jackson, Skywalker and Brazilianjoker all of who have been very helpful in my motivation for this run. Lastly I reserve special praise for Merlin Medau (Take Chan) for his support and our work together. Be sure to check out the following pages for their work in MGS and for Merlin's future MGS2 which will beat this run by a handsome margin!! / kikujirochan / brazilianjoker The run would have been a very good run if damage wasn't taken; the idea behind the run was to take no damage however I didn't manage to do this which for me is very disappointing. I take damage against the Tengu's, who after this run I changed the strat for to make it even easier and faster aswell... After that damage was no longer important and I didn't bother making the Solidus fight a clean one. I also lost time against the Rays who reacted very aggressively for some reason. Sometimes they are well behaved and I think I lost a minute overall just here. I also was slow in the Tanker where I can be 30 seconds faster, with many little time savers that me and Take Chan have found. I did the Choke Hold scene manually. I did not use a turbo controller. The trick is to look and hold left and look at Ocelot this makes the life bar a lot more forgiving and the trick is then to tap triangle rhythmically rather than fast. Overall I am delighted to have achieved a Big Boss Rank but don't think this video truly promotes my ability in this game. I lost 1 minute against the Tengu's, 1 minute against the Rays and 30 seconds in the Tanker. A run of sub 1:42:00 is about my optimal time. Below is list of every major strat I have found to speed this run up for anyone before me and for anyone after me. 1. The last photo location of the marine logo by standing next to the photo sending machine thingy. 2. Fatman's method. 3. The call to Rose to cut the 10 second waiting time it takes her to call you. 4. The Tengu method. 5. Every start for every screen is also my own work as there has been no previous run to compare to. Enjoy... Adnan Kauser
