Daily Catholic Mass Readings & Reflection | Jesus Says Wake Up and Discern the Times #thewordoflord

#thewordoflord When Jesus said he came to cast fire on the earth and cause division rather than peace, he was speaking of the fire of God’s purifying love and truth. In Scripture, fire often represents God’s presence and power—seen in the burning bush (Exodus 3:2), the pillar of fire guiding Israel (Exodus 13:21-22), and the fire that revealed God’s glory and holiness (Ezekiel 1:4, Deuteronomy 4:24). This same divine fire burns away sin, purifies the heart, and fills believers with the Holy Spirit, as at Pentecost (Acts 2:3). Jesus’ mention of division reminds us that following him comes with a cost. His words echo the prophecy of Micah (7:6), showing that loyalty to Christ can even separate families. True discipleship means putting God first—above family, possessions, or personal comfort. Anything placed above God becomes an idol. Christ calls us to wholehearted devotion, to love God above all and obey his will even when it brings conflict or sacrifice. His message brings true freedom—freedom from sin, fear, and evil—and fills us with lasting peace and joy. To be on fire for God means letting his Spirit cleanse, guide, and transform us until our hearts burn with love for him alone. Personal Takeaway: This Gospel reminds us that being a true follower of Christ is not about comfort but commitment. Jesus’ fire calls us to be bold, honest, and faithful—to choose what is right even when it’s difficult. We realize that His love is not a quiet flame but a powerful force that transforms hearts and lives. We pray to keep that fire alive within us and to spread it through kindness, truth, and faith.
