UK PM: need to be cautious about easing restrictions
(2 Jun 2021) British prime minister Boris Johnson said Wednesday the country was on course to end coronavirus restrictions on 21 June as planned, but said a final decision would depend on infection rates. He urged caution, pointing out that cases were currently increasing, althugh he said this was expected because of previous steps to ease lockdown measures. Johnson said scientists needed a little more time before advising if it was safe for remaining restrictions to be lifted on 21 June. On travel restrictions, Johnson again urged caution. "We're going to try and allow people to travel," he said, but he added that the list of countries deemed safe to travel to would be updated as and when necessary.
