Frontrunners for PM if Boris Johnson loses support after a close confidence vote
Breaking News - BORIS Johnson has survived a vicious Tory mutiny by the skin of his teeth and now wants to "move on". But far from being home and dry, senior Conservatives warn he is not out of the woods just yet. Tory MPs voted by 211 to 148 in support of the PM, but the scale of the revolt against his leadership in a confidence vote leaving him wounded. When Theresa May faced a confidence vote in 2018 she secured the support of 63% of her MPs - but was still forced out within six months. The Prime Minister saw 41% of his MPs vote against him, a worse result than Mrs May. Not long ago Chancellor Rishi Sunak was seen as the front runner to replace Boris Johnson, but his popularity has waned and now the field of potential successors is far more open.
