Travel and Camp on Durable Surfaces Durable surfaces include established trails and campsites, rock, gravel, dry grasses or snow Protect water areas and the wildlife by camping at least 200 feet from water Good campsites are found not made, altering a campsite isn't necessary Concentrate on existing trails and campsites Walk in single file line in middle of the trail even if wet or muddy to avoid widening trail or creating parallel trails Keep campsites small and focus on areas without vegetation If in a pristine area, disperse campsites to prevent creating campsites and trails and avoid places where impacts are just beginning to give nature a chance to rebound Info provided by (C) Leave No Trace Center For Outdoor Ethics.
