Trek Marlin 8+ Review: The All-Rounder Front Bike

In our never-ending quest for an e-MTB that offers quality at a good price, we had the chance to test the Trek Marlin 8+. This is a front-suspension electric mountain bike, meaning it only features front suspension, in this case with 120 mm of travel, powered by Bosch, which is probably one of the most flexible packages available. This is also the most popular mountain bike in Trek's lineup and a mass-market mountain bike. Front-suspension e-MTBs give riders the option of a low-maintenance off-road bike while still being suitable for urban riding. It can be fully accessorized as needed and used for daily commuting or left bare for conquering some trails. We don't test this type of bike very often, so it was interesting to put in a few hundred kilometers and see what you can really do with one, trying to answer the question: do we need full-suspension e-bikes? SPECIFICATIONS: Frame - Aluminum Trek Integrated Fork - Rockshox Recon 100mm (XS) 120mm (M-XL) Wheels - 29" Bontrager Line TLR 30 - Bontrager Tire Derailleur - Shimano Deore 12-speed Brakes - Shimano Deore Hydraulic Seatpost - Trans X Dropper Motor - Bosch Active Line + 50 Nm 250W Battery - 400W Display/Remote - Bosch Purion 200 Price - €3299 Size - XS-XL (L - Tested) MOTOR and BATTERY: The motor system is a quality Bosch Active Line unit that produces 50 Nm of torque at 250W. This system is quiet and reliable and provides enough power to tackle most climbs, except for the very steep and rugged ones reserved for road bikes. Enduro and Bosch Performance CX models. This motor is designed to work with a 400 Wh battery that offers a range of 50 km in Eco mode. The system can be tuned with an app and can also be used with a 250 W battery extender. The 50 Nm of power support feels more substantial than a lightweight motor with the same claimed level of support. The display is exceptionally clear and provides all the data the user might need, making it very easy to read in bright sunlight. ON THE TRAIL: This is obviously more of an off-road XC bike, as the front suspension has limited travel and is designed for comfort and a bit of off-road support rather than absorbing big hits. It adapts well, and with the 29-inch wheels, it offers a smooth ride on rough and gentle trails. We took the bike on more extreme trails and were surprised by its performance considering the less extreme nature of the bike. So it definitely has room to be used on some rough trails. Just ride slowly. The motor provides support and It has just the right amount of power for this type of bike, allowing you to pedal off-road without getting tired. On climbs, the lack of rear suspension means the bike is very efficient, and you can feel every pedal stroke positively propelling the bike forward. We also took this bike for some urban rides and found it ideal for those who like a bit of fun in the urban environment. The ability to mount fenders and a rack makes it very flexible and ideal for an adventurous family who might also want to carry a child in the rear seat on dirt roads and in the countryside. A kickstand can also be mounted for added convenience. CONCLUSIONS: This modern Marlin 8+ has a great look and a sleek design that, despite its lower price and limited range of uses, doesn't disappoint. This is the kind of e-bike that will last for years and be used for everything without any problems. The geometry is modern and comfortable, giving the user the option of having fun or being sensible. It's probably one of the most flexible bike models we've seen. I've ridden it recently, and it's also well-priced for its performance and quality. There's also a Marlin 6+ available that performs similarly but with lower specs. It's worth considering if you're on a smaller budget. PROS: Flexibility of use Pair racks and fenders can be mounted Bosch system CONS: Seat comfort isn't always ideal Can be a target for thieves in the city Fork rebound adjustment is difficult CHAPTERS: 00:00 Start 00:10 Specifications 02:15 Test 06:00 Bosch engine 06:27 Conclusion Find your used motorcycle: https://www.moto.it/moto-usate IG:   / motoit   FB:   / moto.it   Telegram: https://t.me/+SI91PIKXQSLJtnRw
