New £35,000 HMRC Rule Is TAKING BACK Winter Fuel Payments — Check Your Tax Code NOW

There is a new rule on the Winter Fuel Payment that has caught a lot of UK pensioners completely off guard. The payment will still arrive in your bank account in November or December as normal. The letter from the DWP will still come through your door. Then, weeks or months later, the money is taken back by HMRC through the tax system without warning. HMRC has confirmed that around 1.3 million pensioners across England, Wales and Northern Ireland will have their Winter Fuel Payment recovered under this rule. Most of those affected have no idea it is happening yet. In this video, Charles Bennett walks through the £35,000 income threshold, who gets caught by it, the income types that count towards it, the dates that matter, and the September deadline for opting out before the recovery cycle starts. What's covered: ✅ The exact £35,000 threshold and how it works ✅ The income sources HMRC includes (and the ones pensioners forget) ✅ Why dividend income and savings interest catch people out ✅ How married couples are assessed individually, not jointly ✅ Why the rule is all or nothing (one pound over and you lose everything) ✅ How the recovery actually happens through your tax code ✅ The September 18 and September 20 deadlines to opt out ✅ The 3 steps to protect your payment before April 2027 ✅ ISA contributions, pension contributions, and timing of income ✅ The DWP scam text warning every pensioner should know about ✅ Free help from Age UK and Citizens Advice If you are a UK pensioner born before 27 June 1960, this video is worth your time. The opt-out deadline is in September. The recovery is automatic after that. 🔔 Subscribe to Charles Bennett, Money & Retirement, for weekly videos on UK pensions, DWP letters, HMRC changes, council tax, and the rules that quietly cost retired people money. ⚠️ This video is general information, not financial, legal or tax advice.
