Nellie was born on May 14, 1933 to Sam Ellison and Biddie Odom Ellison. She was born and raised at Tiger Creek in the East Tennessee Mountains of Carter County. During her twelfth year at Cloudland High School, she quit to take care of her mother who was ill. In July, 1954 Nellie met Charles Virgil Scott, and they wed in October, 1954, going on to have 2 children, Sheila and Mike. As a supportive wife, Nellie continuously relocated from state to state with two children in tote, as was necessary with Virgil’s occupation as an iron worker. She gave the mother’s touch to each new home, and yet maintained the Watauga homeplace to return to from time to time. For many years, Nellie was an integral part of Piney Grove Freewill Baptist Church in Johnson City, TN. She diligently served in the Women’s’ Auxiliary Ministry where she and Virgil particularly enjoyed feeding those in need. She also served administratively in the Cards & Flowers Ministry. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed gardening and canning food. She worked occupationally as a Seamstress as well as an Eldercare Assistant. Nellie was predeceased by Sam and Biddie Ellison (parents), Jack Campbell (Stepfather), Virgil Scott (husband of 50 years), Jordan Bray (grandson), Bill Bray (Son-in-Law), and all her brothers and sisters (Grace Ellison Smith, Pearl Ellison, John Ellison, Robert Ellison, Fred Ellison, Reese Ellison, and Wess Ellison). Nellie is survived by Sheila Scott Bray (daughter), Mike and Brenda Scott (son and wife), Aaron and Traci Bray (grandson and wife), David Bray (grandson), Tyler and Jenna Scott (grandson and wife), Anthony and Betsy Mullins (grandson and wife). She is also survived by many loving great grandchildren (Arissa, Gibson, Ethan, Rylan, Casen, Colton, Mason, Taylor, Tori, and Aiden). Paul Bearers: Tyler Scott, Anthony Mullins, Taylor Walker, Aaron Bray, Jesse Marshall, & Mark Scott Nellie dedicated most of her life serving and helping others. She read her bible daily and especially enjoyed the book of Psalms. Now that she has passed into the arms of our Lord, we should remind ourselves that while this is the end of her physical life on Earth, it’s the beginning of an eternal and beautiful journey for Ms. Nellie June Scott.
