7/23/1969 Red Sox' Carl Yastrzemski robs Johnny Bench of HR in All-Star Game; Curt Gowdy live call!
This is a short video of Boston Red Sox left fielder Carl Yastrzemski robbing the Cincinnati Reds' Johnny Bench of a home run in the 1969 Major League Baseball All-Star Game, July 23 at RFK Stadium in Washington D.C. This clip contains the live call of Curt Gowdy on the NBC Sports broadcast; I don't think I've heard Curt get that excited about any other play! And he's no less effusive when talking about the grab in the ASG highlight film! The National League was leading the American League, 9-3 (that would be the final score), with two outs in the top of the sixth when the Orioles' Dave McNally threw a slow curve that Bench belted over the fence - but that Yaz brought back.
